The Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Conference, is an industry leading event hosted by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC). The CAC presents a fantastic few days connecting with over 350 sport leaders, educators, coaches and like-minded tourism organizations from across the country.

The 2017 theme, “Disruption”, was woven throughout the speaker’s messages; whom all had a slightly different approach to identifying, managing, and embracing disruption. Speakers motivated and challenged delegates to step outside their comfort zones and adapt to a changing world. Some of the plenary speakers for 2017 included Jim Harris, Anne Tiivas, Judy Riege, Trevor Ragan and Shawn Kanungo. In addition, the CAC team were back again with their unique ‘unconference’ breakout sessions, which are facilitated discussions on different topics, first tested at the 2016 Sport Leadership Conference in Richmond with great success.

The emcees for the conference, Robyn Webster, a competitive pole vault athlete and development coach, and Benoît Huot, Paralympic swimmer, with 20 medals in five Paralympic Games, were a dynamic duo that complimented each other perfectly with Benoît’s French-Canadian background and Robyn’s grassroots background and quick wit.

Year after year, the conference achieves its core goal to energize national sport leaders and share important national learnings. Not to be overlooked is its ability to provide an arena to network with sport organizations across the country. The TeamSnap Coaches Lounge and Trade Show area provided this opportunity. Overall a successful and engaging event that introduced the City of Richmond to a number potential of new opportunities.
