When the RSH Office opened in 2009, a strategy was developed that would see the City of Richmond become known as a great place to host a sporting event. Following the incredible success of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, including the long track speed skating event held at the crown jewel of the 2010 Games – the Richmond Olympic Oval – Richmond has hosted hundreds of tremendous sport events.
Over a period of six months, staff met with a number of sport organizations and program partners to develop a strategy moving forward that will not only continue bringing world class events to the city but to expand on the variety of sports assisted as well as broaden the type of assistance available. With formal endorsement from the City of Richmond Council, we are excited to bring a refreshed approach to our business operations and build even stronger partnerships that will allow our Island City to welcome the world for years to come.
