Richmond is home to outstanding sport facilities, active residents, and a strong history of hosting sport events. As the city grows and the community evolves, Richmond is updating its Sport Hosting Strategy—and we want your input.
Your feedback will help inform how sport events are hosted in Richmond, how community, recreation, and tourism priorities are balanced, and which sports matter most to you.
The survey is open until Sunday, January 25th, 2026, at 11:59pm PST.
The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
The Richmond Sport Hosting Strategy guides how the sport hosting partners in Richmond attract, support, and host sport events—from local tournaments to regional, national, and international competitions.
The strategy helps guide sport hosting decisions that:
- Reflect community priorities
- Support local sport and recreation
- Make effective use of facilities
- Contribute to lasting community, social, and economic benefits
The RSH Office opened in 2009 and quickly established Richmond as a destination of choice for world class sporting events. Since 2020, RSH has been operating under the council endorsed 2016 – 2020 RSH Strategy.
Why are we updating the strategy?
Since the current strategy was developed, Richmond’s sport hosting landscape has evolved significantly. In 2025, Richmond was named Canada’s Most Active Community by ParticipACTION, highlighting the city’s strong culture of sport and active living.
At the same time, work has commenced on Richmond’s Tourism Master Plan that identifies sport tourism as a key driver of economic vitality, community vibrancy, and destination reputation. Updating the Sport Hosting Strategy helps consider the emerging direction of the draft Tourism Master Plan, while responding to what matters most to the community.
An updated strategy is intended to help Richmond:
- Reflect evolving community priorities
- Support local sport development and volunteerism
- Attract high-quality events with economic, social, and cultural benefits
- Plan proactively for the right mix and scale of events over the next five years
This update is focused on listening — understanding how residents, facility users, and the sport community experience sport hosting in Richmond and what matters most looking ahead.
