13th Annual International Wheelchair Curling Bonspiel – 2019 Canadian Open
Organized by the Richmond Centre for Disability, the 13th Annual International Wheelchair Curling Bonspiel – 2019 Canadian Open brings some of the worlds best Wheelchair Curlers to the Richmond Curling Club, November 20 – 24, 2019.
Wheelchair curling tournaments have been staged at the Paralympics since the Winter Paralympic Games in 2006 in Turin. The 2018 Winter Paralympics was held from March 10 to 17, 2018 in Gangneung, South Korea. Gold medal went to Team China, Silver to Team Norway and Bronze to Team Canada. As of June 2019, the current Wheelchair Curling World Rankings Top Five is in the order of: China, Norway, Korea, Russia, Scotland/Great Britain.
In 2018, the RCD International Bonspiel saw the keen competition of 14 teams, we hope to have the participation of more teams, with high caliber athletes and increased international presence as the Paralympics wheelchair curling champion team hosting the bonspiel. The RCD strives to make this event nationally and internationally acclaimed and hope to attract quality competitors worldwide and bring the global stage to Richmond.
